CLPE and the surrounding area feels quite a bit like the small town where I grew up, which was in Northern Arizona. I like the feeling of community and the level of teamwork with our staff. We serve an incredible group of students and we have a staff that is very dedicated to hard work, professionalism and making learning fun for the students.
I love to spend time with my wife and my two sons. We enjoy the outdoors and spend a lot of time fishing, hunting and camping. We also like to paddleboard and explore the local lakes of northern Colorado.
One of my favorite books is "Exploration of the Colorado River" by John Wesley Powell. The Powell Geographic Expedition was a groundbreaking 19th century U.S. exploratory expedition of the American West, led by John Wesley Powell in 1869, that provided the first-ever thorough investigation of the Green and Colorado rivers, including the first known passage through the Grand Canyon. The expedition, which lasted approximately three months during the summer of 1869, endured hardships and dangers down the river but resulted in the discoveries of many new natural features in the Colorado Basin. In 1875, Powell published a classic account of the expedition. As a long time resident of Northern Arizona I hold that geographic area close to my heart and still visit every year.
My wife and I have raised pigs, chickens and turkeys on our property in Fort Collins. It is a great experience for kids to see firsthand where their food comes from.
I think the sense of community and the friendly environment make CLPE a special place. Our staff is such a talented group of educators and we always put student first. My own children are here as part of the open enrollment choice that is offered.
I teach within a center based program for students with Serious Emotional Disabilities here at CLPE. I also work with other students who may be receiving special education services. We work on targeted interventions for all academic areas and with social and behavioral skills.
